At Eyecare Plus Mermaid Beach, we are committed to staying at the forefront of eye care so we can continue providing the best possible outcomes for our patients.
On 29 August 2025, our Lead Dry Eye Optometrist, Shaina Zheng, was invited to present at an advanced Dry Eye Wetlab hosted by InMode Australia and Ophthalmix at Concord Oval, Zenith Centre.

The evening brought together some of Australia’s leading optometrists for an immersive exploration of the latest advances in dry eye diagnosis and treatment, including emerging technologies such as Envision by InMode and the Oculus K5 diagnostic system.
Learning Through Hands-On Innovation
Unlike traditional lectures, this event focused on hands-on learning and collaboration. Clinicians had the opportunity to explore new technologies, observe live demonstrations, and discuss real-world approaches to managing dry eye disease.
The session was led by our optometrist, Shaina Zheng, Vice President of the Dry Eye Society, alongside Dr Oliver Woo, encouraging open discussion around the challenges clinicians face when diagnosing and treating dry eye.
These conversations explored not only the technology available today but also the human impact of dry eye disease. Many patients experience ongoing discomfort, fluctuating vision, irritation, and fatigue, which can significantly affect quality of life.
Understanding this broader impact helps clinicians develop more thoughtful and effective treatment plans.
Why Innovation Matters in Dry Eye Care
Dry eye disease is increasingly recognised as a complex condition that requires careful diagnosis and personalised management.
Advances in diagnostic tools allow clinicians to better understand what is happening on the surface of the eye, while new treatment technologies can help address the underlying causes of symptoms.
However, as discussed during the evening, technology alone is not enough. Effective dry eye care requires a combination of:
Clinical expertise
Patient education
Consistent follow-up care
A compassionate understanding of how symptoms affect daily life
