Orthokeratology (also known as Ortho-K) is a non-invasive treatment where custom contact lenses are worn overnight to correct your vision. The custom contact lens works by temporarily altering the shape of the cornea enough to produce clear, lasting vision throughout the day without wearing glasses.
How do I know if I am suitable for Ortho-K?
Orthokeratology works best for myopic (short-sighted) people but may also provide correction for those with moderate degrees of astigmatism and early presbyopia.
Dislike wearing your glasses or reading glasses
Play any kind of sport, especially water sports such as swimming or surfing
Enjoy going to the beach
Work in dusty environments, for example coal mines or building and construction
Experience dry eyes in air-conditioned office environments
Feel concerned about the risks of laser surgery (LASIK, PRK etc)
Feel concerned that your myopia (short-sightedness) is progressing
If you answered yes to any of the above, Ortho-K may be the non-invasive treatment for you.
Does Ortho-K help with myopia progression?
Studies have shown that Ortho-K is an effective way to slow down myopia (short sightedness) progression in children, teenagers and young adults. If your child is short sighted and you are worried about worsening vision then Ortho-K may be an effective Myopia Controltreatment option for them.
