DNEye Scanner
For more than a century, optometrists have determined prescriptions by calculating an average across the pupil area, a method that has provided good, but not truly personalised, results.
The Rodenstock DNEye® Scanner changes that. Instead of averaging, it measures around 7,000 points across each pupil, creating a detailed optical fingerprint unique to your eyes. This map is then combined with your optometrist’s prescription and sent to Rodenstock’s laboratory in Germany, where your lenses are individually manufactured to match your exact visual profile.
The Benefits
Sharper, clearer, customised vision, lenses made precisely for your eyes
Lenses that adapt to you, not the other way around
Improved contrast, night vision, and visual comfort
Our Commitment
At Eyecare Plus Mermaid Beach, every order for premium single vision and multifocal lenses includes DNEye® scan measurements as standard. No upgrades, just the best vision possible, tailored to you.

Multifocal Lenses
Multifocal lenses provide clear vision at all distances, with the top portion of the lens designed for distance vision, the middle for intermediate or computer work, and the lower section for reading. Unlike bifocals, multifocal lenses have a smooth, seamless transition between zones, without a visible line across the lens.
Office multifocal lenses are specially designed for close and intermediate distances, typically up to 1 to 3 metres. They provide a much broader “sweet spot” for reading, computer work, and desk tasks, making them far more comfortable and flexible than standard reading glasses.
Multifocal lens technology has evolved significantly. Older, budget designs (Conventional Multifocal) often have more blur at the edges and a narrower “sweet spot” of clear vision. Newer premium designs (Personalised Progressive) offer a wider, clearer viewing area and a smoother transition between distances, creating more natural, comfortable vision for daily use.

Lens Materials
Spectacle lenses are made from different grades of optical plastic, known as lens indices. The standard lens material has an index of 1.5, while higher-density materials, such as 1.6, 1.67, and 1.74, allow lenses to be made thinner and lighter without compromising clarity or strength.
For patients with moderate to high prescriptions, these advanced materials can make a noticeable difference in both appearance and comfort.
The Benefits
-
Thinner lenses for a more refined look
-
Lighter weight for improved comfort
-
Stronger and more durable materials, ideal for rimless frames, children, sports, and safety eyewear
Our Optometrists Recommend
-
1.6 or 1.67 lenses for most prescriptions
-
1.74 lenses for high prescriptions where minimal thickness and maximum comfort are desired

Lens Coatings
Lens coatings enhance the durability, clarity, and comfort of your glasses. While basic lenses can include an anti-scratch coating, premium coatings go further, improving clarity, reducing reflections, and providing additional UV and blue light protection.
Our Sapphire Multicoat offers extreme UV protection on both the front and back surfaces of your lenses while providing superior scratch resistance for lasting durability.

Sunglasses & Tinted Lenses
Protecting your eyes from the sun is essential for maintaining long-term eye health. Quality sunglasses and tinted lenses help reduce the risk of cataracts, macular degeneration, and other sun-related eye diseases.
Photochromatic lenses conveniently adapt from clear indoors to dark outdoors, providing comfort and UV protection wherever you go.
For the best protection and clarity, separate prescription sunglasses offer optimal vision in bright conditions. Polarised lenses further reduce glare, enhance contrast, and improve colour perception, making them ideal for driving and outdoor activities.

-
Photochromatic lenses for everyday wear
-
Separate prescription sunglasses for driving and extended outdoor use
