From our practice to the wider optometry community

One of the best things about learning is being able to share it.

At the recent Optometry Clinical Conference, our optometrist, Dr Shaina Zheng had the opportunity to share some of the practical lessons our team has learnt from building and integrating dry eye care at Eyecare Plus Mermaid Beach.

The workshop explored something we have learnt firsthand: having access to advanced technology is only one part of providing good dry eye care.

It also takes communication, systems and, importantly, a team that understands the patient's journey and their role within it.

Many of the ideas Shaina shared weren't learnt from a textbook. They came from our own experience as a practice: what has worked, what hasn't, what we have changed along the way and what we would do differently if we were starting again.

Our team has played an important role in developing that approach, and being able to share those learnings with other optometrists was a privilege.

We believe contributing to our profession is part of continuing to grow ourselves.

We learn from others. We share what we've learnt. And we bring those lessons back to the care we provide our patients here on the Gold Coast.
