Your eyes are unique. Your lifestyle is unique. So why should your glasses be based on averages?
At Eyecare Plus Mermaid Beach, we believe great vision isn’t just about seeing clearly, it’s about designing lenses that are tailored specifically to you. From advanced eye measurements to personalised lens designs and premium materials, every step of our process is focused on delivering the best possible visual experience.
The DNEye® Scanner: Your Eye’s Optical Fingerprint
For over 100 years, eye prescriptions have been calculated by averaging how light passes through the pupil. While this method works reasonably well, it doesn’t account for the fact that every eye behaves differently.
The Rodenstock DNEye® Scanner changes this approach completely.
Instead of averaging, it:
Measures around 7,000 points across each pupil
Creates a highly detailed optical fingerprint of your eyes
Captures how your eyes perform in real-world conditions, including low light
This information is combined with your prescription and sent to Rodenstock’s laboratory in Germany, where your lenses are individually manufactured to match your exact visual profile.
The Benefits of DNEye® Technology
Sharper, clearer, customised vision
Lenses that adapt to you, not the other way around
Improved contrast, night vision, and visual comfort
Our Commitment
At Eyecare Plus Mermaid Beach, every premium single vision and multifocal lens includes DNEye® scan measurements as standard. No upgrades. No compromises. Just the best vision possible.
Understanding Multifocal Lenses
What Are Multifocal Lenses?
Multifocal lenses are designed to provide clear vision at all distances:
Top of the lens: distance vision
Middle: intermediate (computer and everyday tasks)
Bottom: near vision (reading)
Unlike bifocals, multifocals have a smooth, seamless transition between zones, with no visible lines.
Office Multifocal Lenses
Office or “workspace” multifocals are designed specifically for:
Reading
Computer work
Desk and close-range tasks (typically 1–3 metres)
They offer a much wider and more comfortable viewing area than standard reading glasses, making them ideal for modern work environments.
Why Premium Multifocal Design Matters
Multifocal lens technology has evolved significantly.
Older or budget designs often have narrower clear zones and more blur at the edges
Modern personalised designs offer wider fields of vision, smoother transitions, and more natural movement
This results in:
Easier adaptation
Less eye strain
More comfortable all-day wear
Our Optometrists Recommend
Platinum Plus Personalised Multifocal LensesFor full distance, intermediate, and near vision
Office Plus Personalised Multifocal LensesFor computer, office, and close-up work
Lens Materials: Thinner, Lighter, More Comfortable
Spectacle lenses are made from different grades of optical plastic, known as lens indices.
Standard lenses: 1.5 index
Higher-density materials: 1.6, 1.67, 1.74
Higher index lenses allow glasses to be made thinner and lighter without compromising strength or clarity.
The Benefits
Thinner lenses for a more refined appearance
Lighter weight for improved comfort
Stronger materials, ideal for rimless frames, children, sports, and safety eyewear
Our Optometrists Recommend
1.6 or 1.67 for most prescriptions
1.74 for higher prescriptions where minimal thickness is desired
Lens Coatings: Small Details, Big Difference
Lens coatings significantly improve how your glasses perform and how long they last.
While basic lenses may include scratch resistance, premium coatings offer much more.
Sapphire Multicoat
Our Sapphire Multicoat provides:
Extreme UV protection on both the front and back of the lens
Superior scratch resistance
Reduced reflections for clearer vision
The Benefits
Crisper, clearer vision
Improved contrast and colour perception
Safer, more comfortable night driving
Longer-lasting lenses
Our Optometrists Recommend
Sapphire Multicoat for all glasses
Blue Light Filter + Sapphire Multicoat for computer and office wear
Sunglasses & Tinted Lenses: Protecting Your Eyes Long Term
UV protection isn’t just about comfort, it’s essential for long-term eye health.
Quality sunglasses help reduce the risk of:
Cataracts
Macular degeneration
Other sun-related eye conditions
Your Options
Photochromatic lenses: clear indoors, dark outdoors
Prescription sunglasses: best clarity in bright conditions
Polarised lenses: reduce glare, enhance contrast, and improve colour perception
